Why Metabase backup is not trivial
Metabase stores runtime data in a single database: dashboards, questions, collections, and settings. If you self-host, you manage this backup directly.
H2 (default):
H2 is embedded. To back up safely, you must stop Metabase, copy metabase.db.mv.db, then restart. Downtime required. Manual scripting needed. One mistake = corrupted backup.
PostgreSQL/MySQL:
