OneDrive Alternative: Own Your Files, Keep Your Data in Europe
Nextcloud replaces OneDrive, Google Drive, and Microsoft 365 storage in one open-source platform. Edit Office docs. Chat, video, calendar. Host in German data centers. No vendor lock-in, no per-user seat taxes.
Why Teams Leave OneDrive for Nextcloud
A side-by-side look at what you pay, what you get, and what you own.

stars on GitHub. Trusted by thousands of teams.
Nextcloud is open-source and actively developed. No corporate lock-in, no surprise price hikes.
The OneDrive problem is not about storage. It's about control.
OneDrive deletes files automatically if you're not careful. Migrating files off OneDrive takes hours. And M365 costs add up: storage, Teams calls, email, document editing — each one is a separate line item.
Nextcloud combines all of it. One platform. One bill. Full control over your data.
When you host Nextcloud on Opsily, we handle the server. You get:
- Office editing via OnlyOffice, the same interface you know from Microsoft
- Nextcloud Talk for video calls, chat, and screen sharing (all on your server)
- Calendar, contacts, email in one place
- 200+ apps to add workflows, forms, dashboards, and integrations
- Guaranteed EU data residency — no data leaves Germany unless you choose otherwise
- Open-source license — you own your setup, not rented access
Who leaves OneDrive for Nextcloud?
Any team tired of SaaS sprawl. Finance teams avoiding M365 costs. EU-based companies needing GDPR compliance without US-hosted servers. Nonprofits running on tight budgets. Regulated industries (healthcare, legal) needing data control and audit trails.
